It's an okay starting off point for a beginning player. He usually explains his reasoning, but there are a few parts where he does not and the reader is left to guess. If not, and you want to have an advantage in your next home game - this book will give you a lot. Might be a little basic for someone who has read a few decent poker books before. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. This is perhaps a little more advanced that what I could use, but it's a quick and readable introduction to poker strategy, and the art of imperfect information, livened up with examples from the table. for readers that are looking beyond the Harrington series. It might be worth checking them out soon. That said, this beginner has read other poker books before and only had to look up a few terms.

I really, really wanted to. It's a great baseline to start your tournament play from. I've seen that Phil Gordon has some more advanced follow up books. He has won -- and lost -- in tournaments and cash games around the globe, all the while studying the game and learning from every hand dealt. This is a terrific book for no limit hold em tournament players. There are a lot of poker books out there (and I've read many of them ;^), but this one is my favorite, perhaps because my playing style is very much like Phil Gordon's.

The mathematical parts of the book, on pot odds and quickly figuring the odds of your hand against an assumed AA or AK hand, as well as avoiding common statistical mistakes, is a little rough, and will take me another reread.This is a very handy book. Phil Gordon is probably the most undervalued poker writer. Finally – a book devoted primarily to No Limit cash games!
